The percentage of executive positions held by women and minorities in the U.S. cannabis industry has dropped from two years ago as white men migrated into the business, according to a survey released Monday by MJBizDaily. The share of women in senior ranks of cannabis companies fell to 22.1% in 2021 from 36.8% in 2019, according to the survey. The latest figure falls short of the 2020 national average of 29.8% of women holding executive positions in all industries.

Over the past two years, the U.S. has pulled ahead as one of the most valuable cannabis markets in the world, with projections estimating the U.S. market to be worth over $90 billion by 2026. However, even in this period of remarkable growth, female leadership has dwindled to all-time lows. According to MJBizDaily’s 2021 Women & Minorities in the Cannabis Industry report, female executive representation is down t

Some of the most popular cannabis products across the industry are cannabis-infused edibles and cartridges. Cannabis-infused edible products are produced by licensed processors, who use an intensive process that involves extraction equipment needed to extract concentrated oil from cannabis plant matter before adding that oil into normal baked goods or other confectionary goods. This distilled oil, also referred to as “distillate”, is also used for vaporized cartridges. Michigan’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) recently proposed a new rule that would allow licensed processors to purchase industrial hemp for the purpose of producing conversion oil to be used for cannabis products for sale in Michigan’s licensed cannabis market.

What Makes Blueberry So Damn Blue… and Berry?
Blueberry weed gets its blue and violet hues from anthocyanins, pigment molecules that only become visible where there’s no green chlorophyll on the buds or leaves. But anthocyanins, as far as we know, don’t do anything for the strain’s heady effects or its aromatic qualities. (Anthocyanins, however, may confer some health benefits.)

“It is not unreasonable to ask that cannabis which has been treated with one of these post-harvest machines be labeled as such to indicate to patients and consumers it required some sort of secondary treatment prior to sale. If one does not do that, the Cannabis Compliance Board is not doing its best to inform consumers of the quality of the product in the cannabis market. At this time, it would be reasonable to have all products which required secondary treatment to provide some notification to the consumer. It may not be the Radura symbol nor the language currently required by NCCR(Nevada cannabis regulations), but possibly some symbol the CCB develops to indicate a needed post-harvest treatment on that flower,” Adler wrote.

In being referred to as the “Green Goddess” or, even more directly, as “Mother Mary,” cannabis is frequently likened to an entity that is life-giving, nurturing, and, quite specifically, maternal. Weed as the Mother of Us All is a concept that’s both ancient, dating back to at least the fourth century CE when it was used to aid in childbirth, and, as legalization increases and stigma around parents using pot dissipates, blazingly up-to-the moment.

BANGKOK (AP) — Thailand, which in 2020 became the first Southeast Asian nation to decriminalize the production and use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, moved Thursday to further loosen regulations on the drug.
The Public Health Ministry’s Food and Drug Administration proposed that cannabis -- which includes marijuana and hemp plants -- be completely dropped from its official listing as a prohibited narcotic or psychotropic substance.

Mississippi is one step closer to finally establishing a medical marijuana program after a state Senate vote last week. But the next steps for the legislation will be much trickier. After a spirited session, during which hemp products were passed through the chamber as examples, the Senate passed the bill by a 47-5 margin. It would, in part, allow physicians and other medical professionals to prescribe cannabis for 22 conditions. It also would apply a 7% sales tax on

A new study has identified cannabis compounds as a therapeutic agent to prevent coronavirus infections by blocking the virus from entering human cells. According to the study’s authors, widespread use of these compounds from pot plants and a vaccination regime could help to fight the virus’s spread and the disease it causes in people who get infected.

The product reviews featured in this column over the last year have placed way too much of an emphasis on the THC content of any given cannabis product, which I’ve recently learned plays far less of a role in determining the dankness of your bud and the richness of the resulting high.
